Teach your child how to ride children scooter safely


Most children are very fond of scooter. They just love to show off their acrobatic skill while riding. Flips and various other tricks are amazing to watch but there always remains safety concerns, especially if the riders are not well-equipped with safety gears. Many youngsters don't prefer to put on safety gears like helmet, knee and elbow pads. Because, they tend to think they wouldn't look smart if they wear these protective equipment. However, it is highly dangerous to perform various tricks without putting on necessary gears. Even professional stunt men also opine that safety is the very first priority and it applies for children scooter riding as well.

What gears should one wear?

Any accident that arises from children scooter rider can affect various parts of the body. But, head injury is considered as the most fatal among all types of injuries. Hence, all riders need to protect their heads and helmet is a must for that reason. While purchasing a helmet riders need to ensure that it fits them properly. Ideally, there should be a gap of few centimeters between the forehead and the brim of the helmet. They should also pay heed to the position and fitting of the helmet straps. The straps shouldn't be loose and allow helmet to move. The ideal position of these straps would be across the backside of lower jaw and throat.

Regardless of whether a rider is keen to perform flips or not a helmet is a must. Elbow and knee caps are not mandatory but skilled riders are better off availing them. The outer part of these pads are made of different protective materials or plastic. There is a deep layer of foam inside the pad to shield riders from getting hurt. Those who are not habituated to wear these gears will initially find them very uncomfortable. And some riders may also find that these protective gears are limiting their movements. However, once these same riders get the hang of wearing these gears they will feel uncomfortable without them. Riders those who like to flaunt their scooter skills are also advisable to put on wrist guards because while performing various twists and turns their wrists can get hurt as well.

Aside from these measures young riders should also be aware of the road condition and situations while riding. While crossing streets, they should stop and push their scooters across and they should also be mindful of the bumps, sands, or other elements on the road that can cause riders to fall due to lack of control.
